Live Blog: State Falls to Miami

2:38 p.m.  Game just started: N.C. State is using the same starting lineup that they did last year in the ACC Tournament, minus Atsur. NO J.J. Hickson in the starting five. Sidney is in the red coat.

2:48 p.m. - 13:55:  Miami gets quick spark from Graham out of Goldsboro.  State looking out of sync. '07 roster needs Atsur.

3:00 p.m. - Miami leads 14-13:  Miami physical down low.  Hickson gets physical right  back, starting to take over game for State.  Crowd is predominantly Wolfpack fans.

3:06 pm - 2:36 Miami leads22-14:  Game very sloppy.  Low-scoring game helps State and the slow pace should allow the Pack big men to be fresh for second half. State needs to convert easy baskets and stay within five before the end of the half.

3:16 p.m., end of first half and Miami leads 24-17: Second-lowest total in a half by the Pack in an ACC game this season and really no one to blame but themselves. State defensively has been solid in a 2-3 zone, but need to keep giving the ball to J.J. Hickson, the Canes don't have an answer. Also worried about how quiet Miami's Jack McClinton has been. He has two shot attempts and no points. For State, 17 points in a half will not get this done against  fifth graders. Someone needs to spark this team!

3:37 pm 17:16  Miami Leads 30-21:  Hickson starts the second half with Fersguson.  What does this mean?  Costner may see little of the floor in the second half.  Fells WILL give this team a spark in the second half.

3:55 pm - 13:30  Miami leads  34-23  :   Marques Johnson enters game with Costner.  The offense looks lost.

3:54 pm - 11:20  Miami leads 38 -23 :  Chad from alltel commercials is here.  I beat him up. Sorry to his mother.

3:58 pm - 9:41  Miami leads 42- 27 :  Hickson 19 rest of team 8.  J.J. thanks for the memories.

4:02 pm - 7:27  Miami leads 44-29 :  Miami doing a great job of creating turnovers. 13 by State.  Hurdle for Miami starting to heat up.

4:10 pm - 5:09  Miami leads 46-36 :  Costner site around the 6 minute mark.  State makes quick run.

4:13 pm - 3:29  Miami leads 52-38 :  Javier Gonzalez called for foul.  He proceeds to kick ball into third row.  No tech called.  Crowd moans because Duke fan on Jumbo Tron.

4:20 pm - 2:30  Miami leads 54-42:  State trying to press.  Tough to do with slowest people on floor.  I am including the refs.

4:23 pm - 1:37  Miami leads 55-45 :  State attempting to make run.  Miami keeps up pressure.

End of Game Miami wins  63-50 : Miami has started to like they are wanting to be a NCAA team.  McClinton will need to do more damage if Miami thinks they are going to be around for Sunday's Final.  State puts an end to a forgettable season.  Final note:  Wolfpack has become a football school.

I think there is one constant whether the coaches are Lowe, Sendek, Les Robinson etc and that common thread is NC State. Hmmmm......? Anyone see a trend here?

"NC State should be a top 25 team year in and year out.."

There are at least 50 schools out there that believe the same thing about their program. And since there are only 25 spots, some coaching heads will roll every year due more to unrealistic expectations than poor coaching.

Give Coach Lowe some time to recruit players that fit his style of play, not Sendek's. And then be a little more realistic about your expectations. State has never been a consistent top-10 type of team. Other than a couple of years with David Thompson on the team (one of them on probation), how many times has State finished the regular season in the top 10?

Herb didn't get cut loose....he quit! That's fine...I'm glad he's gone. Now the problem with Lowe is he can't coach! this team got worse and worse, while other ACC teams got better. I don't care WHAT the circumstances with the point guard were, and next year will be even more painful.

Herb had State there and no one realized it... went to 5 consecutive NCAA Tourneys in his last 5 years - one of only 12 programs in the country to do that during that span. It took Dean and K about 10 years to get their programs doing that and then consistently in the top 10 the next decade. I think Herb got cut loose too soon... I understand the frustration because greater success was being had in the neighborhood at the same time. But State was right there on the cusp and I believe Herb would have had them where they wanted to be all along - top 3 in the ACC and top 10 nationally. At this point it's just debate... Herb is gone and so are the NCAA Tourney bids. I still think the jury is out on Lowe as a coach - give the guy a chance. Even Doherty got a 3rd year! Good luck to State in the offseason and hope things get turned around soon!

Man you guys are tough....If the Duke fans had been this tough in the early 1980's or the UNC fans in the early 1960's..I guess Dean & Coach k would have been gone after 3-4 years!!Yep 1983 was 25 years ago(WRAL has reminded us lately) and Herbs style seems similar to V's....But after V used 1 and 1 fouling as a way to get back in the games(because their opponents could not shoot free throws) the NCAA changed the 1 and 1 to double bonus on the 10th personal foul....its all about MONEY!! the NCAA did not want to see their "cash cow",,"March Madness" reduced to a free-throw shooting contest,,a championship won by a team that no one other than their own fans can remember more than 4-5 players names!!

maryland will probably win the tournament

No one is getting State to the next level. They lost the best thing they've had in a long time with Herb. Classy guy, ran a clean program, recruited good kids. If State would just quit trying to be Duke or UNC and also remember that 1983 was a LONG time ago, things would be easier take.

The only good things from this game and season is that both are over...here's to next year....remainder of the tourney should be good, though...I pick Duke to win....

The problem with Herb was he was NEVER going to take them to the next level. NC State should be a top 25 team year in and year out....we we're right on the edge, but that was it. His style made it so if the team wasn't hitting 3's...they lost. That's a tough way to win in the ACC. There are coaches out there that we could get to take this team to the next level.....but it ain't the group we have now. Lowe's SON was arrested this past off-season, one of the assistant coach's was arrested this past off-season...he has NO control of the things in his life, and it shows!

Wow. Who knew the loss to New Orleans back in November would spiral into one of the worst seasons I can remember for State. Here's hoping Lowe can turn it around next year.
