When you think of women's basketball in the Cap Seven, the first team that comes to mind is Wakefield, but there are several other teams that are more than capable of winning.
Millbrook is one of them.
The Wildcats are 26-4 on the season, and three of those four losses came to the Wolverines. Despite being 0-3 against undefeated Wakefield, Millbrook has given the Wolverines some of their toughest battles of the season. Most recently, the two played in the Cap Seven Tournament Championship game, and after falling behind by a large margin, Millbrook almost completed a comeback.
Almost doesn't count in basketball, though.
Despite the three losses to the Wolverines, coach Chris East remains confident that his team has the chance and the ability to win the state championship.
"I have to believe," East said.
The coach, who was rushing back to Raleigh on Monday to coach the Millbrook golf team in a match, said that the strong Cap-Seven Conference has helped to prepare his team for this post season run.
The Wildcats are athletic, capable of playing strong defense, and they're offense is capable of scoring points.
Before Millbrook can worry about whether or not they will see Wakefield again, the Wildcats must take care of business against Westover. Coach East told WRAL on Monday that he thought Westover was a lot like his team.
"They're very athletic," East said, "They're a lot like us."
Millbrook is scheduled to go head-to-head with Westover at 7 p.m., on Tuesday, and East said he hopes there is more student support.
"Against Apex, there was a strong faculty presence, but not so much the students," East said. He said the support was there for the boy's team, but that he wants to see more for his team.
