Tar Heels Pulling Away

8:21 p.m.: Carolina has just taken over the game inthe second half.

After closing the first half with seven straight points to take a 34-31 halftime lead, the Tar Heels have been dominant in the second half.

State was still close, with UNC ahead 40-36, when the Heels simply took off.

Hansbrough has destroyed State inside. After spending much of the early part of the game on the perimeter, he has since powered inside for baskets and State has had no answers.

When Quentin Thomas scored for UNC to make the score 48-38, State coach Sidney Lowe called time and spoke to not one, but two officials. He approached the first one, who listened for a moment and then drifted away, so Lowe went to another.

After that, he pulled a chair into the Wolfpack huddle and began an animated discussion as the suited coaches and trainers circled around.

Out of the break, State spread the floor and tried to funnel the ball inside to J.J. Hickson. But Hansbrough jumped in front of a bounce pass and State's opportunity was stalled.

Carolina's lead is now 56-41 with 11:54 remaining, and the crowd has a restless, almost desperate, feel.

By the way, freshman Tracy Smith is getting a lot of minutes for N.C. State. He has even spent time on Hansbrough.

Wayne Ellington just nailed a beautiful three-pointer for Carolina and it's 59-42 Tar Heels.
