Nick Stevens: What I Would Have Picked

Well, I think this experiment we have conducted over the past several weeks has turned into what I didn't want it to - a popularity contest. When we received e-mails from fans complaining that there was not an All-Area Team for the Triangle, I thought that maybe the fans could try and pick one.

There I go thinking again...

This is why real, legitimate All-Area teams have members of the media voting. If WRAL were to do a real, legitimate All-Area team, coaches would be asked to nominate players, and then the media would vote - not the fans.

Anyway, I thought it would be interesting if I posted what I thought the All-Area team should look like. I know some of you aren't going to agree, and I'm sure there are some people that you think were forgotten, but that is why one person cannot put together an All-Area team.

Here are my picks:

Quarterback - Thomas Wilson (Leesville Road)

Running Backs - Jamal Williams (Millbrook), Gary Douglas (Hillside)

Wide Receivers - T.J. Kornegay (Athens Drive), Josh Brooks (Garner), Taylor Gentry (Leesville Road)

Offensive Linemen - John Schmittle (Leesville Road), Larry McDonald (Orange), Zach Kelly (Garner), Chip Woodruff (Athens Drive), Adam Caudil (South Granville)

Defensive Linemen - Marc Campbell (Athens Drive), Derrick Redman (Fuquay-Varina), Akeem Ward (Middle Creek), Jamez Minor (Riverside), Jimmy Bridges (Southern Durham)

Linebackers - Mark Walker (Leesville Road), Demetrius Hartsfield (Southeast Raleigh), Reggie Bowens (Garner)

Defensive Backs - Tony Morgan (Garner), Cody Lyon (Leesville Road), Mike Daniels (Southeast Raleigh), Tobias Palmer (Northwood)

Kicker/Punter - Bryson Rose (Wakefield)

Kick/Punt Returner - T.J. Graham (Wakefield)

Offensive POY - Taylor Gentry (Leesville Road)

Defensive POY - Reggie Bowens (Garner)

Most Valuable Player - Thomas Wilson (Leesville Road)

Coach of the Year - Clarence Inscore (Millbrook)

Hey Nick, I think you did a great job at your picks. Thanks again for a great year.

Im gonna have to agree with the person below me. Great picks Nick. And honestly Taylor or Thomas would be great MVP's both are more than deserving. Taylor was outstanding both ways for the ville and Thomas really stepped up even more from last year to become a leader for the Pride and could only be described as a field General who led his troops magnificently. Congratulations to all the area-players for some great football this fall.

Nick,

I think your picks are perfect and on target as well. Maybe next year, you can work with the N&O and the Herald Sun to pick an all-area team together. By the way, my only switch would be Thomas and Taylor. Taylor was probably more a MVP than THomas because he played both ways for Leesville. Thomas played Offense only. Both are deserving of those spots though.

Nick

I think your picks are right on target! Hope you keep this WRAL All Triangle team going for basketball and baseball!

GO TROJANS!

On your marks get set and proxy vote!!! that is what it looks like to this reader. Go to a proxy site and keep voting as many times as you would like for your favorite player..what a joke next time block Proxy votes....a lot of sore fingers out there watch out for carpal tunnel syndrome.
