I've received several e-mails over the last few days concerning the All-Area Team that WRAL.com has allowed its readers to select. Instead of responding to every single e-mail, I decided I'd put it all out here on my blog.
As I said in my Dec. 22 Blogpost "No All-Area Team For The Triangle?", this task is something I thought would be fun for the fans who had sent me e-mails complaining that no Triangle media outlet was willing to put together an all-area team.
This is certainly nothing official, and it isn't feasible for WRAL to try and put together a legitimate all-area team at this point in the year. Putting together an all-area team will take time and planning, something we did not plan on doing this football season.
Again, let me emphasize that this is not anything official, but for the fans. I felt that since fans were the ones that we concerned about the lack of an all-area team, and since it was too late to put anything together officially, we could at least let the fans put their own all-area team together.
WRAL allowed people to nominate players from Dec. 22 until Dec. 31. Players had to have been nominated to appear on the ballot, and no players have been added to the ballot since Dec. 31.
We are also going to allow people to nominate players for Offensive Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, and Most Valuable Player. We are also taking nominations for Coach of the Year. All of this will be decided on by you - the fans.
My hope is that next year we may be able to put together an official all-area team.
If you sent me an e-mail and I did not respond, I was not ignoring you - I simply can't respond to every e-mail. Thanks for all of the suggestions everyone has provided and feel free to e-mail me anytime.
