Continuing from 2007-08 ACC Glance, Part One and 2007-08 ACC Glance, Part Two. ...
9. Wake Forest
Projected Starters: sophomore point guard Ish Smith*, junior wing guard Harvey Hale*, sophomore wing forward L.D. Williams*, sophomore power forward Jamie Skeen*, sophomore center David Weaver.
Off The Bench: freshman point guard Jeff Teague, sophomore wing guard Anthony Gurley, freshman wing guard Gary Clark, junior wing forward Cameron Stanley, freshman forward James Johnson, sophomore center Chas McFarland.
Known Departures: center Kyle Visser (senior), wing guard Michael Drum (senior), power forward Kevin Swinton (transfer), point guard Shamaine Dukes (transfer), power forward Casey Crawford (transfer).
Comment: The Demon Deacons won't have a single recruited senior next season, and that's always a concern. But four starters will be back, and some of Wake's youngsters (e.g., Smith, Williams, Weaver, Gurley) have the potential for massive leaps in production and consistency, as long as the team improves its offseason work ethic. Lingering concerns include turnovers, defense and rebounding.
10. Boston College
Projected Starters: junior point guard Tyrese Rice*, freshman wing guard Rakim Sanders, senior power forward John Oates*, sophomore power forward Shamari Spears, senior center Tyrelle Blair.
Off The Bench: sophomore wing forward Tyler Roche, freshman point guard Biko Paris, freshman center Josh Southern, freshman forward Corey Raji, sophomore wing guard Daye Kaba, freshman power forward Cortney Dunn.
Known Departures: wing forward Jared Dudley (senior), wing guard Sean Marshall (senior), center Sean Williams (dismissed), power forward Akida McLain (dismissed), wing guard Marquez Haynes (transfer).
Comment: Game programs should sell well in Chestnut Hill next season. From the opening-day BC roster (which included Williams and McLain) in 2006-07 to the opening-day roster in 2007-08, this team is undergoing a massive overhaul, including the departures of four-year starters Dudley and Marshall. The Eagles' projected starting lineup next year actually has some potential, and Rice is a proven star, but several freshmen must be ready to help right away.
11. Virginia Tech
Projected Starters: sophomore point guard Nigel Munson, junior wing guard A.D. Vassallo, senior wing forward Deron Washington*, sophomore power forward Lewis Witcher*, junior center Cheick Diakite.
Off The Bench: freshman power forward Jeff Allen, freshman point guard Malcolm Delaney, freshman center Augustus Gilchrist, freshman wing guard Dorenzo Hudson, redshirt freshman power forward Terrance Vinson, freshman wing forward Terrell Bell.
Known Departures: wing guard Zabian Dowdell (senior), point guard Jamon Gordon (senior), center Coleman Collins (senior), wing guard Markus Sailes (senior), power forward Chris Tucker (senior), center Robert Krabbendam (Europe).
Comment: With the departures of five contributing seniors, including the four-year starting backcourt of Dowdell (a first-team All-ACC selection) and Gordon (the league's defensive player of the year), this is another major overhaul. One of the best recruiting classes in school history — that's relatively speaking, remember, not by Duke or UNC standards — should help a lot, but literally every man on the roster will be adjusting to a new role.
12. Miami
Projected Starters: freshman point guard Edwin Rios, junior wing guard Jack McClinton*, junior wing forward Brian Asbury*, sophomore power forward Dwayne Collins*, junior center Jimmy Graham.
Off The Bench: freshman center Freddy Asprilla, junior guard Lance Hurdle, sophomore wing guard James Dews, senior power forward Raymond Hicks, junior wing forward Adrian Thomas, freshman power forward Julian Gamble, senior power forward Fabio Nass.
Known Departures: center Anthony King (senior), point guard Anthony Harris (senior), power forward Keaton Copeland (senior), point guard Denis Clemente (transfer), wing forward Lawrence Gilbert (transfer). NOTE: King has appealed to the NCAA for another season of eligibility.
Comment: This will be coach Frank Haith's first Miami team that consists entirely of his own recruits. That's good news, because Haith — a former assistant at Wake Forest and Texas, among other places — knows how to identify and attract top-notch talent. Unfortunately for Haith, his program has been hit by an onslaught of injuries, transfers and other roster turmoil. The Hurricanes likely will be better in 2007-08, but they live in a very tough (ACC) neighborhood.

^ — still considering early entry into 2007 NBA draft
NOTE: This blog is heading on vacation until April 10. Moving forward from that point, we'll have plenty of ACC spring football, NFL draft (April 28-29), fall-out from the NBA's early entry deadline (April 29), and other fun stuff. We welcome your comments (below) and suggestions as well. As always, thanks for reading!
