New Jersey Meltdown

North Carolina melted like snow in Hawaii. The Tar Heels led Georgetown by 10 with 7:19 to play and it looked like Atlanta was the destination. But when Carolina turned into a jump shooting team, something they are not, misses led to Georgetown opportunities and they cashed it in BIG TIME. The Hoyas outscored the Heels 31-9 after that 7:19 mark. Marcus Ginyard said the Heels were out there waiting for time to expire rather than executing during money time. As a result, the Heels leave New Jersey with tear stained cheeks and yes that includes Coach Roy Williams who is famous for his tearful ends to a season. Coach Williams said there are a lot of folks who like to see Ol’ Roy cry at the end of the year but “no sucker has had the guts to tell me that to my face.”

Losses like this should hurt, should sting, should be a lesson. What’s unknown is who will be back for class next year? Ty Lawson said he’ll be back. Brandan Wright will sit with Coach Williams before making his decision. Tyler Hansbrough says he hasn’t given it any thought but did tell ESPN he’s a 4 year guy. He loves the college life. Don’t believe what you hear now…we’ll just wait and see.

Blood is thicker than objectivity. When Tyler Hansbrough went to the foul line in overtime, I looked down at former Georgetown coach John Thompson, who was a part of the radio broadcast of the game for Westwood One. Coach Thompson looked like he was coaching again. With elbows extended, Thompson was telling Hoya star Jeff Green…”you gotta box out…gotta box out!!!” That’s a tough position for a broadcaster/father to be in. His son, John Thompson III had the Hoyas on the verge of the Final 4 and ultimately Georgetown would punch their ticket to college basketball’s biggest showcase for the first time since 1985. Carolina’s bid for their 17th trip ends with a stunner.

Izzy, let's all be fans of our favorite teams first and then ACC fans. As a Tarheel all my life, I have trouble doing that with Duke, but I'm working on changing my attitude. Good luck to all ACC teams, including BC, Miami, Virginia Tech, and even Duke (ugh). I hope Clemson wins the NIT, and good luck to Kay. I'm praying for her.

Ha! Thanks for the good laugh! That is so typical for a State fan! The whole - I'm going to talk badly of the team that NC State constantly compares itself to because the wolfpack wasn't even good enough to get invited to the tournament in the first place - attitude. Tell the wolfpack to go shine its 73rd place trophy! Have a good day!

One play does not win or lose a game, izzy, it's just the one you remember. For alot of reasons UNC will not be dominant in basketball anymore, but they still have a much better shot than most universities(dominant, that is) We don't play football, so give us a break! Hopefully this season showed all of our underclassmen that they still have a long ways to go to be ready for the pros. Yes, Brandon Wright will be offered alot of money, but if he is not financially desparate, he would be a fool not to give it one more year in college - kids need to have some fun before they are expected to earn a living and he has alot left to learn and they won't be teaching in the pros. The play hard all game mantra did not sink in this year. Here's hoping it does for 2008. Go Heels!

Remember how Carolina won the 82 championship, there is no team who was more robbed than Gtown in my opinion in actually trying to do something at the end of the game, how anti-climactic. They had the ball, James Worthy stumbles, and the guy throws it to James Worthy, tar heels win. I mean, mannnn, how can u lose like that. All i can say is payback is you know what. I bet John Thompson the Father was 3x happier than his son. I was 10x happier than both of them. I did feel a little sad for the Carolina players; every year everyone tells them they are going to win the national championship because they go to UNC, i mean this is a big disappointment, but then i am shaken back into realit when i hear Roy Williams explain how he (didn't) coach(ed) which led to the loss.

Go State, O'Brien for president, Lowe for Secretary General of the UN
