Greetings from Buffalo! Yesterday the fog was so thick, we could barely see the arena from the parking lot! It rained all day -- and night -- so it's a good thing basketball is an indoor sport. Tonight, the forecast calls for snow showers. Woo hoo!
As for basketball...I asked several of Duke's players if they had something to prove this weekend -- and they were unanimous in answering "yes." This team has a chance to reinvent its image this weekend. As a six seed (Duke has only been seeded lower once -- as an eight) there is a certain "underachiever" status pegged to this team.
Whether that's fair or not is up for intensive debate ( lets's face it... they're being compared to the great Duke teams of the past, and no one expected this team to be "great"), but regardless of that, the 06-07 team can erase much of the negative talk with a couple of wins here in Buffalo. We'll know soon if they answer the call.
A few random tidbits:
* Greg Paulus expects around 40 friends and family to make the trip across New York from Syracuse. He went so far as to borrow tickets from his teammates.
* Gerald Henderson's dad, Gerald Sr., is a VCU grad. He made sure to remind his son that VCU tends to have good guards...
* One of those good VCU guards (OK, the best player on the team by most everyone's account) is a local guy. Eric Maynor is from Fayetteville -- he played his high school ball at Westover.
Game time is tonight at 7 -- snow or no snow.
