UNC Among Signing-Day Splashes
On Wednesday, this year’s national signing day in college football, Georgia Tech likely will draw the most headlines among ACC schools. Locally, North Carolina is expected to finish on top. Our ACC Sports Journal writers will have complete coverage all week long at ACCSports.com.
Florida State, Miami and UNC are among those still waiting for last-minute decisions from high-profile targets who could push their classes into the national spotlight as well. Miami's Randy Shannon and UNC's Butch Davis have done outstanding jobs of generating interest in their programs despite recent coaching changes, and FSU's Bobby Bowden is considered a legendary "closer" on the recruiting trail.
The Yellow Jackets had their impressive group of commitments in place by the end of January. Sixth-year coach Chan Gailey previously had made his mark as a consistent winner and a director of well-coached teams. With a reconstructed staff, led by recruiting coordinator Giff Smith, Gailey this year showed an ability — for the first time in his Tech tenure — to win lots of head-to-head recruiting battles against other ACC and SEC powers, including rival Georgia.
The ACC’s batch of consensus prep All-Americans will grow beyond the list below on signing day, but it will be difficult for anyone to surpass the Jackets. Eight of Tech’s expected signees earned four- or five-star ratings from both Scout.com and Rivals.com, two leading on-line football recruiting services.
Many additional prospects earned rankings of four stars or better from at least one outlet, but here’s the complete list (as of Feb. 5) of those who fit that category in both the Scout and Rivals rankings:
Georgia Tech (8): College Park (Ga.) North Clayton safety Morgan Burnett, Gainesville (Ga.) High offensive lineman Nick Claytor, Folkston (Ga.) Charlton County wide receiver D.J. Donley, Marietta (Ga.) Kell running back Jonathan Dwyer, Coatesville (Pa.) High defensive lineman Derrick Morgan, Greensboro (Ga.) Greene County quarterback Josh Nesbitt, Baton Rouge (La.) Catholic defensive lineman Jason Peters, Adrian (Mich.) High quarterback Steven Threet.

Whoa, somebody got a thesaurus for Christmas. Facts is facts though and I think that obviates the bloviating. You walk into any sporting goods store in this country and you will be able to purchase UNC gear. Can the same be said of little carolina? No.
