Pack Got Rested--and Atsur Got Back

Well you had to like N.C. State’s effort Wednesday night in the upset of Virginia Tech. The week off was just what was needed for this thin, tired basketball team.

Of course getting Engin Atsur back is really big. State’s season could be entirely different if Atsur hadn’t missed 12 games with a left hamstring problem. He’s still not 100 per cent but his presence on the court really changes things up for the Pack. It allows Gavin Grant and Courtney Fells to play their more natural positions and it makes a team with no depth, a player deeper. Atsur’s a senior who’s been in a lot of tough situations. His leadership has been sorely missed. His nature is to be calm no matter what the situation. State has needed that.

To be honest, I’m not sure playing him 35 minutes was a good thing but Sidney Lowe and the training staff felt he could do it so there you go. But I do know a hamstring injury is a tough recovery and it’s easy to keep re-injuring it. I would say Atsur for a little bit is better than no Atsur at all.

State is certainly not a great team, through 20 games maybe just average at best, but no question the win at Virginia Tech was huge for Lowe, his staff and his team. A shot of confidence means much. It makes a mountain easier to climb and State still has an uphill trek.

But Sidney Lowe knows better than anyone, if you play hard and smart and with passion, you never know what can happen.

In this ACC right now there’s Carolina and the rest. I think State is capable of playing with most of the rest.

They proved that at Virginia Tech.

Yeah, I'd say that the calls were bad.....As in "Why wasn't 'Tyler' ejected for throwing a punch"? If it wasn't a punch then why was there a tech called? PUL-EEZE! The refs did a great job. How do I know this....Because they were not visiable all game. Com'on Tarheel fans....Don't make me wake this babay!

hey daniels, im a true diehard carolina fan and the officiating was not bad at all. a true fan will admit that his team just got beat ...plain and simple! if carolina would have won it would have just been another tarheel victory. man, we just lost and thats it.

Hey Daniels, you must know the sound you hear outside your house now is the rumbling beneath the surface caused by the spinning you just created Case, Sloan, and V to do! A Wolfpack coach, much less a first year one, get a call over a Carolina head man? Perish the thought! Say a hundred "Hail Lenny Wurtz's" and snap back to your senses!

After the officiating this afternoon, I hope all the BS about favoritism towards Duke and Carolina is over. Whenever, State needed points, the whistle blew. Wow!!! I guess the zebras wanted ol' Sidney to win one badly.

The Pack's effort and Coach Lowe's preparedness both do indeed need to be applauded. However, they may have created an interesting catch-22 for themselves this weekend. There will be no "sneaking up" on the Heels. I'm sure the combination of the upset itself, the ESPN highlights, and now Coach Williams' constant reminders during this week's practices will have the physically dominant Tarheels mentally prepared for the fight they'll find in the Pack too. Good luck Wolfpack. Keep the hard, smart, and passionate play mentioned above going strong. Maybe a walk-thru and a "talk-thru" over in ole Reynolds prior to this matchup in the RBC would give the Pack that little extra. Just a thought Coach Lowe from those of us that still believe in the spirits that fill that beloved old building.
