Hopewell Academy Junior Makes a Great Contribution

At less than two years old, Hopewell Academy of Cary wouldn't be expected to excel in athletics. The school doesn't get much media attention, and they aren't well known among high school sports fans.

A reader sent me an email earlier this week informing me of a major accomplishment by one of the men's basketball players at Hopewell Academy.
On January 19th, Drew Dennis posted a quadruple-double against Camelot Academy. The Junior Forward had 24 rebounds, 17 points, 12 assists, and 12 steals - all in 24 minutes.

Dennis went 8 for 17 from the field, and 1 for 5 from the line. Of his 24 rebounds, 6 of them were on offense, and with a 3 to 1 assist to turnover ratio, Coach Andrew Pogach didn't have much complaining to do.

Just in case you were wondering, Hopewell won the game, 57-27.

So, just how often do we see quadruple-doubles, not in high school basketball, but in the game as a whole? Well, in the NBA, there have only been four quadruple-doubles recorded in league history. According to the NCAA, there have been no quadruple-doubles in Division I College Basketball history. After doing some extensive research, I found two numbers for North Carolina High School Basketball. Although they cannot be confirmed, one source reported there have been two quadruple-doubles, the other reported three.

Hopewell is part of the new Central Carolina Athletic League, a conference that Coach Pogach helped to form. Pogach is in his first year as a head coach, and Hopewell is in it's first season playing boy's basketball. The 3-7 record Hopewell posts isn't much to write home about, but they certainly appear to have a bright future ahead of them.
