Brad Simmons: The Great Unknown

In a basketball rich region such as this, talent flows in and out of the area like there is no tomorrow. And it's not just the men that are drawing the attention. Women's basketball has become a force as well.

North Carolina and Duke have been battling all year for not just the top spot in the state, but the country. Great Players like Monique Currie and Ivory Latta get the recognition, and rightfully so, for what they do for their teams.

But quite possibly the best talent in the area that few people know about calls Spalding Gym her home court. Nastassia Boucicault, a 5' 6" point guard from Brooklyn and senior leader of the Shaw Lady Bears, has developed a game that rivals anyone.

Averaging 16 points, 5 assists and 3 steals for the Division II power, she has a cross over that will blow your mind, great court vision, can light you up on one side and help shut you down on the other. She has been part of team that has won 71 straight conference games and 4 straight CIAA regular season divisional titles.

Unfortunately, and to no fault of her own or the University, she happens to play in the shadow of three major programs from the best conference in America. It's hard to compare talent from leagues that don't play each other. But I would have to believe that talent and ability shine no matter where you are, and it would be a joy to see Nastassia Boucicault match up with Ivory Latta (UNC) or Lindsey Harding (Duke). That won't happen, but don't be afraid to check out one of the area's great talents.
