National candidates, GOP incumbents gather for state Republican convention

— Sen. Ted Cruz headlined the afternoon Saturday at the North Carolina GOP convention. He was the luncheon speaker for the annual Republican gathering.

Another presidential hopeful, Dr. Ben Carson was to lead a prayer breakfast Sunday morning. Donald Trump who's considering a White House run  was on tap as Saturday's dinner speaker.

On Friday evening, {{a href="video-1"}}Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker{{/a}} was the featured guest.

Gov. Pat McCrory and U.S. Sen. Richard Burr, both on the ballot next year, each had a a chance to address party faithful in hopes of building toward a 2016 campaign. The governor was slotted to give the keynote address Saturday afternoon. Burr led a Saturday morning tribute to retired U.S. Rep. Howard Coble.

Party business Saturday also includes picking a successor to Chairman Claude Pope. Craig Collins of Gastonia has endorsements from McCrory, Burr, Sen. Thom Tillis and top legislative leaders.

    Of all. the potential candidates for the Republican nomination, Scott Walker is the creepiest. He operates on the edges of the law and is against what most of us treasure.
