SPARKcon, Taylor Swift lead our weekend best bets

SPARKcon, an annual celebration of culture in the Triangle, runs through Sunday in downtown Raleigh. Check out more than 2,000 artists and performers Thursday through Sunday in downtown Raleigh. From dance to theater to film, there is a little something for everyone. 

Two hot country music stars are playing Raleigh on Friday night. Taylor Swift with special guest singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran plays the PNC Arena, and Jason Aldean is at Walnut Creek. Tickets for both shows are still available.

A cool 5k for a great cause on Friday night. The Electric Run is a nighttime a 5K run/walk at the NC State Fairgrounds. It features light and sound transporting racers to another world. The event benefits North Carolina Special Olympics. Registration starts at $50.

On Saturday, things are getting spicy with the 7th Annual NC Hot Sauce Content in downtown Oxford. Admission is free. There will be more than 70 vendors with samples of hot and barbecue sauces, beer, wine and more. Beach Music sensation Hip Pocket will provide music. 

Also on Saturday, head to Rolesville for the 4th Annual Hot Pick'n Finger Lick'n BBQ and Bands Fest. Chefs will compete in various barbecue cook-offs, and you can enjoy delicious food and live music. There will be bounce houses, games and vendors on site.
