Southern Pines police investigating shooting at local park

Posted October 7, 2013

Police in Southern Pines are investigating a shooting that apparently happened over the weekend at a local park.

Officers were called around 7:45 p.m. Sunday to respond to reports of a fight at Downtown Park on Southeast Broad Street, but when they arrived, they were told that there had been a shooting but no victim.

They later learned that an 18-year-old gunshot victim was being treated at Moore County Regional Hospital in Pinehurst and that he refused to cooperate with a police investigation into the crime.

Anyone with any information that could help authorities is asked to contact the Southern Pines Police Department at 910-693-1481 or the department's crime tip line at 910-693-4110.

Yea, parks are gun free zones for law abiding citizines like myself, but criminals carry their illegal weapons anywhere they want. Do you think a "no guns" sign is going to keep a criminal with a gun from carrying it there? Hello - they are criminals and therefore aren't concerned with obeying the law. Only the law abiding citizens are hurt by laws suchj as this. Let the liberals keep passing laws for us - we will all be so much safer - NOT
