Southern Pines police investigate hit-and-run
Southern Pines police responded to a hit-and-run Tuesday morning on U.S. Highway 15-501 involving a 25-year-old woman.

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. — Southern Pines police responded to a hit-and-run Tuesday morning on U.S. Highway 15-501 involving a Whispering Pines woman.
Alexis Garner, 24, reportedly walked in front of a Mitsubishi car at 12:11 a.m. while trying to cross the road in front of a Lowes Home Improvement store, according to police.
The driver, Enrique Garcia Lopez, 20, was not charged.
Garner was transported by ambulance to the Memorial Park ballfield on Morganton Road and then airlifted to UNC Hospital’s trauma center in serious condition.
No further information on Garner’s status has been released.
