Community supports Southern Pines officers after Facebook threat

Authorities started searching for Cody Seth Travis, 23, on Friday. Travis, who already had an outstanding warrant for stealing, posted a message on Facebook that was littered with profanity. "Wish I could kill every cop there is. Useless to the world if you ask me," his post read in part.

Police Chief Robert Timme said the department took the threat seriously and officers are currently investigating.

"Given the current culture and what's going on in the country, Facebook posts such as this that threaten to kill police officers certainly is like yelling fire in a theater," Timme said.

As police officers investigate, anonymous community members began working together to rally around the department. They dropped off letters, cards and water bottles, Timme said.

"One of my key roles here, and my main role as chief of police here, is making sure that everybody that comes to work goes home safely," he said.

Travis is described as being white, 5 feet, 9 inches tall and weighing 215 pounds. Police said he should be considered armed and dangerous.

Authorities believe Travis may be living in the area of Lowe’s Home Improvement on N.C. Highway 15/501.
