A Southern Pines man is facing attempted kidnapping charges after authorities said he tried to take two children from their Head Start classroom Thursday.
Southern Pines police said Damitri Johan Vamper, 20, entered the Southern Pines Head Start at 1400 W. Indiana Ave., showed his identification and told staffers he was there to pick up two children.
An investigation determined he had no relationship with the students.
Officers found Vamper near the school and arrested him. The school was placed on a brief lockdown until the investigation was complete.
Vamper was held at the Moore County jail under a $150,000 secured bond. He is scheduled for a court appearance on Feb. 21.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Southern Pines police at 910-693-1481 or Crime Stoppers at 910-693-4110.
