BAILEY, N.C. — Students were sent home early Wednesday from Southern Nash High and Southern Nash Middle schools after a mechanical problem left the schools without water.

School engineers were working to correct the problem.

The athletic department was bringing in portable toilets and bottled water so that athletic activities could proceed as planned on the schools' campus Wednesday night.

Classes will resume Thursday, and bottled water will be on hand.
