RALEIGH, N.C. — WRAL has hired Kathryn Brown to be a weekend anchor alongside Ken Smith and to report during the week.

She fills the slot left open when Renee Chou moved to the weekday mornings.

Kathryn is currently working for WCBS-TV in New York City, but told us that she and her husband look forward to getting back to the South to settle and raise a family.

Kathryn is from Atlanta, where she still has family, and graduated from the University of Georgia. Before getting to New York, Kathryn worked at WJZ-TV in Baltimore and at WSET-TV in Roanoke.

She won Regional Emmy and AP awards for her reports on the Virginia Tech massacre. Her first day at WRAL News will be Aug. 25.
