Sorority to focus on college prep during teen summit

A local chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority will host a teen summit called "Are You Ready for College?" on Feb. 22. It's open to male and female high school students.

The Chapel Hill-Carrboro Area Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority will host a teen summit this month to help high school students prepare for the college application process.

"Are You Ready For College?" is 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Feb. 22, at UNC-Chapel Hill's Hamilton Hall building. The event will include representatives from Duke, Durham Tech, North Carolina Central, North Carolina State, UNC-Chapel Hill, UNC-Greensboro, and Wake Tech.

The event offers interactive workshops, prize raffles and discussions about college admission, being successful in the classroom, student life and other topics.

For parents, there will be a workshop with practical advice on how to support teens during the college application and transition process and financial aid. Rhonda Manns, director of A2Z College Planning, will be the featured speaker, according to a press release.

The summit is open to both male and female high school students.
