I had already sent Sonic an e-mail about it before you posted, Nancy. We'll see what they have to say. Thanks for the info - I forgot you knew an ex-Sonic employee. :-)

Oh, and Sonic Corporate gets a percentage of $ from items served, so they base that on the REAL cost, not the half price they promote. Stores really take a beating on these promotions if they participate. And since Sonic does better business in warmer months, I'm not surprised many did not participate (individual store managers may not have heard about it since their up level managers didn't plan on their stores participating and didn't inform individual managers). Margins are very thin in colder months due to greatly reduced volume of sales.

Unfortunately, the corporation of Sonic itself puts out these promos and some of the franchise groups (owners of multiple sonic locations - some in many states owned by one group) will not participate. Sonic Corporation really messes up the individual franchise owners by not supporting the costs associated with these promotions and the locations lose money - the sad thing is, it makes the individual locations not look good.

So if you want to complain to someone, I strongly suggest you fire off an email to Sonic corporate here:

Well - this was the dud freebie of the year! Sorry that none of the Sonics you went to decided to participate. What a fail....

The one on Jones Franklin was not participating either, I'm sure I didn't need it so that was a good thing. :-)

The one in Goldsboro said there was a coupon, which I in turn explained that there was no such coupon for the half price shakes. The employee asked where I had gotten the information and that her manager was going to check it out. So if you are in the Goldsboro area and want a shake, beware you will pay full price, even after we had given the "Winter Solstice Glad we don't visit Sonic much, it needs alot of improvement all around.

The website does indicate it is valid at "participating" locations, but they never give us a list of who is participating.

Caution to others - call your Sonic first before going to make sure they are participating.
