Some see unexpected winter vacation extended

By 6 p.m., Franklin County public schools had also posted a two-hour delay for Thursday, and school in Granville and Halifax counties was canceled. 

Communities along the I-95 corridor got the most snow Tuesday into Wednesday. Some reported seeing flakes fly until noon, and accumulations ranged from an inch to almost 4 inches across Halifax, Nash, Edgecombe and Wilson counties.

For Peter Bynum, Wednesday's snowfall hit just the right pitch. 

"It's gorgeous to look at and not too dangerous to drive in," he said. "We didn't have any last year so we're happy to have it, and I know the kids are happy to be out of school today."

Patrick Ellis, an 11th grader, was playing football with friends amid the flakes. "Anytime you're out of school it's fun," he said.

For Landon Clontz, the icy weather added an extra challenge to throwing the ball. "I feel like we're on Lambeau Field right now," he said.

Chandler Brice, a 10th grader, was enjoying a house party. "We all texted all our guy friends and told them all to come, so we all showed up," she said.

Old or young, snow brought out the kid in everyone. 

Connor, age 2, and his grandfather Danny Braxton tumbled together in the snow. "It's lots of fun, lots of rustle and tustle and playtime. It's what he loves," Braxton said.
