Soldiers return to Fort Bragg in time for Christmas
Some members of the 1st Sustainment Command returned from Kuwait to Fort Bragg on Friday to reunite with their families for the holidays.
Posted — UpdatedThe command, which handles logistical planning for how the Army will move and operate in the Middle East in the future, is divided into three teams. The Blue team deployed a few weeks ago so the White team could come home after nine months overseas.
The soldiers got off the plane at Pope Army Airfield at Fort Bragg at about 1 p.m. and were soon greeted by cheering loved ones.
Jeanne and Larry Allgood drove from Georgia to be with their son, Spc. Austin Ball.
"I was nervous him being over there," Jeanne Allgood said. "Talking to him once in a while helped."
Sgt. Dennis Simmons said he was shocked to see how much is younger daughter had grown.
"When I first saw her, I said, 'Oh my God, she looks like her mom,'" Simmons said. "She can walk!"
The soldiers will get to spend extended Christmas and New Year's weekends with their families and will then get 15 days of leave in mid-January.
"(I want to) just spend time together, let him see the babies and just have a merry Christmas," military spouse Melanie Ruder said.
