Soldier from Fayetteville dies in Afghanistan

A soldier from Fayetteville was killed in Afghanistan Saturday, Nov. 12 while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom, the Department of Defense announced Monday. 

Spc. Calvin M. Pereda, 21, died Saturday while on dismounted patrol in the Kandahar province of southern Afghanistan. 

Pereda was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 5th Infantry Regiment, 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division in Fort Wainwright, Alaska.
