Soggy, stormy conditions stick around

A stationary front parked along the east coast will keep the Triangle socked in with clouds, which the chance for rain at any time through the next four days. The cloud cover held temperatures in check Monday, but low pressure approaches from the west on Tuesday spurring a warming trend. 

The forecast highs and the chance for afternoon thunderstorms will gradually build through Thursday afternoon, when the chance for storms is greatest. 

The clearing begins on Friday just in time for the first games of the high school football season. "By Friday this feature should be east of us, which will put us in a drier atmosphere which means a drastic reduction of rain," Fishel said.

High temperatures will rise throughout the week, peaking in the low 90s by Friday.
