Snow Day Schedules: Museums, parks thaw out, reopen

Posted March 4, 2014

The museum features a traveling exhibit about Clifford the Big Red Dog.

Forecasters are recommending we all stay off the roads until mid- to late-morning so the sun can melt the icy spots. And that's just about when popular family-friendly destinations will open today.

Here are the schedules for today, Tuesday, March 4:

The N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences in downtown Raleigh will open at noon.

The Museum of Life and Science in Durham will open at noon.

Marbles Kids Museum in Raleigh will open at 11 a.m. The first IMAX movie is scheduled for noon.

The N.C. Museum of History in Raleigh opens at 10 a.m.

Kidzu Children's Museum in Chapel Hill opens at 11 a.m. Read last week's post to learn all about Kidzu's move to University Mall.

Raleigh parks, recreation and cultural resources facilities will open at 10 a.m.

All Durham parks recreation centers will open at 11 a.m.

Wake County parks will start opening up this morning. Crowder District Park opens at 10 a.m. Blue Jay Point County Park (with indoor activities) opening at 11 a.m. Historic Oak View County Park (which offers lots of indoor activities) opening at 11 a.m. North Wake Landfill District Park opening at 11 a.m. Historic Yates Mill County Park (also with indoor activities) opening at noon.

Stay & Play Snack Cafe in Durham opens at 10 a.m.

For more indoor activities, check our resource pages on indoor playgrounds and Triangle libraries. Be sure to call ahead before you go.

One note: Carolina Puppet Theater's regularly scheduled show today at Holly Springs Cultural Center has been canceled. They will be performing at 11 a.m., Wednesday, at the Renaissance Center in Wake Forest.

Now, let's all hope this is the very last post that I have to write about snow day schedules this school year!

The danger was a function of timing. 4 hour delay would have worked but would it have been worth it?

We can't go to school because it's sooooo dangerous, but it's safe enough for a museum trip. Ok.....

Roads in my subdivision were not safe at 10am but were safe at noon. Schools made the right decision to close to err on the side of safety.

Where is the Clifford exhibit that is shown in the picture?
