— A snake stuck on a transformer line knocked out electric service to about 10,000 homes in Fayetteville Thursday night.

Police said the snake was trying to get some birds in a nest and crawled up at least 12 to 15 feet.

Progress Energy customers around Yadkin, Morganton and Reilly roads lost power around 10:30 p.m. Crews restored service in about two hours.

It is obvious that the power company is not doing enough to protect the enviroment! They should be charged with cruelty to animals!

I remember a squirrel blowing one out when I was a kid. Poor thing; there were bits of fur and stuff all over the street. (This was in upstate NY, though, not here.)

I am use to tranformers blowing because of someone crashing into them not because of creatures from the wild...lol
