FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A snake stuck on a transformer line knocked out electric service to about 10,000 homes in Fayetteville Thursday night.

Police said the snake was trying to get some birds in a nest and crawled up at least 12 to 15 feet.

Progress Energy customers around Yadkin, Morganton and Reilly roads lost power around 10:30 p.m. Crews restored service in about two hours.
