Smithsonian to close exhibits because of spending cuts

Posted April 30, 2013

If you’re planning a trip with the kids to the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C., this summer, federal spending cuts could affect your summer vacation.

Three exhibit sections in the African Art Museum, the Smithsonian Castle and the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden will close beginning Wednesday through the end of September because of sequestration, the across-the-board cuts that chopped $42 million from the Smithsonian’s budget.

The institution announced more closures will come on a “rolling basis” through the summer.

Check the Smithsonian calendar online before you head north.

"That's what you do when you're out of money. Make hard choices and cut out what you find is a luxury."--beaupeep

Except they are not out of money. The sequestration is an artificially produced cash crisis that does not need to exist at all. They are only "out of money" in the context that the GOP cannot stand the word "debt" and, thus, fabricated a crisis to fulfill their ideology.

Not the most important exhibits I suppose.
