Smithsonian to close exhibits because of spending cuts

Three exhibit sections in the African Art Museum, the Smithsonian Castle and the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden will close beginning Wednesday through the end of September because of sequestration, the across-the-board cuts that chopped $42 million from the Smithsonian's budget.

If you’re planning a trip with the kids to the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C., this summer, federal spending cuts could affect your summer vacation.

Three exhibit sections in the African Art Museum, the Smithsonian Castle and the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden will close beginning Wednesday through the end of September because of sequestration, the across-the-board cuts that chopped $42 million from the Smithsonian’s budget.

The institution announced more closures will come on a “rolling basis” through the summer.
