Smithfield man charged with peeping in tanning salons

A Smithfield man has been charged with watching women as they undress at a local tanning salon, police said Thursday.

SMITHFIELD, N.C. — A Smithfield man has been charged with watching women as they undress at a local tanning salon, police said Thursday.

Northie McArtan Jr., 47, of 1 Landsdown Place, was charged with one count of sexual battery and two counts of misdemeanor secret peeping.

Arrest warrants state that McArtan twice peeped into a tanning booth at 721 N. Brightleaf Blvd. between September 2009 and last month. He also kissed the breast of one woman in the tanning booth, according to a warrant.
