— Smithfield police on Wednesday charged a 28-year-old man with the death of his 6-month-old daughter.

Guillermo Tinajero-Resendiz was charged with involuntary manslaughter and negligent child abuse causing serious bodily injury, according to police.

On Nov. 5 around 11:20 p.m., officers responded to 2003 S. Bright Leaf Blvd. in Smithfield to assist Johnston County EMS, who were responding to a call of an infant experiencing difficulty breathing.
