A 34-year-old Smithfield man was charged Wednesday in connection with a home invasion and an unrelated December sexual assault of a minor, the Johnston County Sheriff's Office said.

Christopher James Derusha, of Yellow Stone Lane, is charged with first-degree burglary, larceny, assault on a female and taking indecent liberties with a child. He was in the Johnston County jail Friday under a $75,500 bond.

According to authorities, Derusha broke into a home on Camelia Drive near Selma Wednesday and assaulted a woman before taking her purse.

Derusha was also under investigation for allegedly touching a 10-year-old girl on Dec. 8, authorities said, and he was charged in that case following the home invasion arrest.

Nauti-dog, if the bond is high and he can't pay it, he stays in jail and cannot commit more crimes. Makes sense to me and a majority of the people making comments. Maybe you need to stop posting nonsense ;)

This isn't his first time with indecent liberties with a child. He was caught in 97.

A $75,000.00 bond shows permissiveness of this type activity. A criminal record and charges like this and some magistrate would allow him to possibly roam around free?

I agree with the posters about the bond, way too low. Any home invasion should be way up there to make sure they don't get out. If you're not safe in you home, it's pretty bad. Rebelyell55

Wow. Amazing how many of you think the bond is punishment or designed to keep them in jail.

nitabitasmith, enlighten us as to what a million dollar bond would do in this situation....please. And don't say "keep him in jail" because that's not what bond is for. It's to ensure a court appearance, nothing more. You should stop posting nonsense if you believe otherwise

Inter Alios, still it is too low for the crimes he has committed. Indecent liberties with children? Cmon now. His bond needs to be higher!
