Smithfield man arrested after high-speed chase

Wilsons Mills police arrested a motorcyclist early Friday following a chase that reached speeds of 130 mph.

WILSONS MILLS, N.C. — Wilsons Mills police arrested a motorcyclist early Friday following a chase that reached speeds of 130 mph. 

Jerry Barker Jr., of Smithfield, was charged with felony speed to elude arrest, failing to register a vehicle and not having a motorcycle endorsement. He was placed in the Johnston County Jail under a $5,000 secured bond.

Police attempted to stop Barker after he ran a stop sign on Wilson's Mill Road near Strickland Road, but he didn't stop.  He led authorities on a five mile high-speed just before 2 a.m.

According to police, the motorcycle was seized under North Carolina's "Run and You're Done" law.

No one was injured during the incident.
