RALEIGH, N.C. — When Smash Mouth bassist Paul de Lisle heard the band would be playing Sunday's Rock 'n' Roll Raleigh Marathon and Half Marathon, he was a little concerned.

"Does this mean we have to play for 26.2 miles?" De Lisle joked during a recent phone interview.

While putting the pop-rock band on the back of a flatbed truck in front of the runners would be a cool motivation technique, the California band will be headlining the free post-race festival concert at Red Hat Amphitheater.

For those who only know the band from hit singles like "All Star" and "Walkin' on the Sun," seeing them live should be a treat. De Lisle said the band's live shows offer different takes on their hits.

The Rock 'n' Roll Raleigh Marathon and Half Marathon presented by WRAL starts at 7 a.m. in downtown.

The entertainment at Red Hat Amphitheater kicks off at 8 a.m. with Chicago-based blues band Honey & the 45's. At about 10:15 a.m., race officials will present awards to marathon winners. Smash Mouth is expected to take the stage around 10:30 a.m. Following their set, Americana band Justin Trawick and the Common Good will entertain until about 2:30 p.m.

The post-race concert is free and open to the public.
