SHERRILLS FORD, N.C. — Investigators say a small single-engine plane sank into Lake Norman after crashing on Tuesday evening, WBTV reported.

The plane crashed near Sherrills Ford just before 7:20 p.m., Iredell County emergency officials said.

The pilot escaped the plane and wasn’t seriously hurt, WBTV reported. The plane later sank into the lake.

The plane was coming into the Lake Norman Airpark from Greensboro when it experienced engine trouble.

The FAA told WBTV it isn’t clear who was piloting the plane. The plane is co-registered to Sean McGrath of Chicago and Vishnu Mathur.
