RALEIGH, N.C. — Clouds and rain showers will move into central and eastern North Carolina Wednesday afternoon as a cold front pushes through the state.

Temperatures will climb into the upper 60s to near 70 degrees during the afternoon Wednesday despite the continued cloud cover.

"We'll have drizzle through the morning, and then our rain chances will go up quickly during the afternoon," WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner said.

Rain chances will reach their peak during the mid-afternoon and evening before falling overnight and into the day Thursday.

After the rain, skies will begin to clear Thursday, allowing colder air to move back into the region.

Highs Thursday and Friday will be in the low 50s, and overnight lows will also be backing down into the 30s once again.
