Slide the City Raleigh returns with shorter lines, splashy fun
Slide the City returns to the Oak City Saturday, and more people than ever before are expected to enjoy shorter wait times and splashy rides down Glenwood Avenue on the 1,000 foot slip-and-slide.
Posted — UpdatedRiders need to sign up in advance to participate in this all-day event, which draws tremendous crowds from both in and around Raleigh. The event, which sold out last year, was a huge success, but many riders complained about the wait to slide.
This year, event organizers have changed things up a little bit to address that issue. "We are now implementing waves into registration," said Brad Behle, an Event Director for Slide the City. "This means that everyone has a block of time they sign up for to slide."
Tickets for the event, which range from just over $10 to $99 depending on sliding frequency and time of purchase, enable riders to ride once, three times or as many times as they can fit into the eight-hour sliding block. As Behle said, all sliders will sign up for particular blocks of time in which they can slide.
Slide the City is a national event that has reached 32 states and some locations in Canada, so the new organizational method has already been tested in other cites. "It has changed the wait times dramatically and added a lot to the overall experience of the event," said Behle.
All riders are required to slide on tubes. If your ticket doesn't include a tube, you can bring your own or purchase one at the event. The event will be held at 200 Glenwood Avenue.
