Sleeping 6-year-old girl kidnapped, then returned home

Posted August 20, 2014

— A six-year-old Raleigh girl was kidnapped from, then returned to, her home Wednesday morning.

Investigators responded to the 4700 block of Dansey Drive at about 3:45 a.m. after a man entered an apartment and took the sleeping child to a nearby outdoor location, police said.

“A short time later, after engaging in actions suggestive of further illegal intent, the suspect returned the girl to her residence,” police said in a statement.

Authorities did not elaborate on what those actions were.

The girl woke her mother, who then notified police.

The child was not injured, police said.

Investigators were not able to provide a detailed description of the man.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact Raleigh CrimeStoppers, which pays cash for anonymous tips leading to arrest, at 919-834-HELP or visit their website for text and email reporting options.

OMG, another really bizarre crime in Raleigh. What is going on?

Most probably the perp is getting his nerve up and his planning in place for more aggressive actions. We are being naive if we think he changed his mind because he responded to her innocence or his conscience. He was afraid of being caught, but he'll be less afraid after more planning. Pray he is caught, and pray for parents to use all the available technology to protect their children like they protect their jewelry.

Agree this is very weird, but at least the child is alive and from the scant details provided, not hurt. Let's be thankful for that much.

We don't really need to know.

This does seem odd, but not unreasonable that someone could have taken her in the first place. If the parents sleep in a room with a fan on or something- they wouldn't hear much unless it was a loud crash, and maybe the girl is a heavy sleeper- not real quick to awaken. I know my kids are like that.

But very odd. I can see why they wouldn't have much description- their witness is a sleepy 6 yr old. I wonder if it wasn't someone she knew.

“A short time later, after engaging in actions suggestive of further illegal intent, the suspect returned the girl to her residence,” police said in a statement.

Please tell us what this means.

WTvd says: What police did release is a very limited description of the suspect. He is described as a white or Hispanic male, of average height and weight. He has close cropped hair, short facial hair and was wearing a white t-shirt. -- Sorry but most white and Hispanic men do not have the same average height and weight. This just gets weirder and weirder.
