SLED investigating deputy-involved shooting in Anderson Co.

The shooting happened on Brown Road. McBride said deputies were responding to a home after a woman called 911 and reported a man was in her living room with a gun.

A deputy saw the suspect enter a car and gave the man orders to exit the vehicle, but McBride said the man did not comply. Instead, McBride said the man brandished his weapon and the deputy opened fire.

"A lot of times, this is what we have to engage with and deal with on the street," McBride said. "I think our officer did what she was trained to do."

The suspect was shot in the stomach. McBride said the man will face charges once he is released from the hospital.

"I talked to the suspect personally," McBride said after the incident. "Just asked him, what's going on? What in the world is he thinking? And he just, he basically said he was sorry he made her do it."

The suspect's name has not yet been released.

McBride said the deputy was not hurt.

SLED said Thursday its investigation was ongoing. SLED agents would conduct interviews and gather forensic evidence related to the case. SLED said there was no dash cam footage of the incident.

The shooting was the 24th involving a law enforcement officer in 2017 and the second involving the Anderson County Sheriff's Office.
