Skin-damaging radiation high Sunday, so slather on the sunscreen
Anyone heading outside Sunday should "slather on the sunscreen," says WRAL meteorologist Nate Johnson, who warns that a high UV index mixed with temperatures in the high 80s could damage skin.

The ultraviolet index forecasts the amount of skin damaging UV radiation expected to reach the earth's surface at the time when the sun is highest in the sky, according to the National Weather Service.
The index is based on a scale from 1 to 11+, with 1 being a low UV index and 11+ being extreme. Sunday's UV index is a 10, which is considered very high.
"I think the weather we have today is pretty nice, overall," Johnson said. "We'll see a good bit of sunshine. The humidity levels are starting to creep up just a little bit, though."
Showers and thunderstorms are possible in the evening but will mostly affect areas west of the Triangle.
"We never quite get rid of the rain chances throughout the seven-day forecast," Johnson said. "We’re heading into that time of year where we see that popcorn thunderstorm and shower chance just hanging around in the afternoons."
Temperatures will remain in the high 80s to low 90s throughout the work week.
