Size of food stamp backlog dwindles

Posted February 24, 2014

Food stamps card

— The number of families waiting on food stamp benefits dropped this week to its lowest level since tracking began in the fall, according to data from the state's health agency.

The Department of Health and Human Services says current totals show 1,097 untimely cases are still pending in the system, down about 35 percent from last week. Most of these cases have been processing one to three months, while about 300 are late emergency applications.

On Feb. 11, DHHS Secretary Aldona Wos told lawmakers that workers met a U.S. Department of Agriculture deadline to clear longstanding and emergency cases by Feb. 10. The agency's second deadline is March 31, when the federal agency requires the state to clear the backlog completely and fix other problems according to the state's corrective action plan.

DHHS spokesman Kevin Howell said in an email Monday that, because the latest data calculated based on daily totals represent a "snapshot in time," the agency would release a more complete report on the progress toward the March deadline Thursday.

Backlog level drops again

Explore the graphic above to see how the food stamp backlog has changed since the U.S. Department of Agriculture issued its warning. The bottom portion includes the majority of pending applications and recertifications the USDA wants eliminated by Feb. 10. Data will be updated as updates are received.

assume much, number one it was not I that brought the Leeches up it's you and your posse, secondly, is there fraud of course but based upon your statements 1 in 7 commit fraud...all I can say is prove it ! and if you can't stop the lies! most fraud comes from over billing by yes your precious providers or the Medical providers themselves. And How dare you claim you work harder than anyone else! Bet you complain more than anyone else too! and P.S. I'm a Independent, assume much!

Never said all in need are leaches. That was you!! But for you ( libs) To cry foul when someone makes it and does the work to do it is insane. I know there are people in need and that is fine. You just think all on the system needs to be on it. I do not. You believe that there is no fraud, when indeed there is. Don't know who mad you so bitter, but it is sad for you. I have not degraded anyone. just the ones that are robbing the system and by the way you and your children if you have any. Furthermore, If you work 40 hours a week( great) and I work 55 plus to not be on the system and to make it, I in fact do work harder than you. My choice. But you guys some how think that that is a bad thing and then call us names cause you choose to be satisfied with your situation and since you don't have what I do then we are the bad guys. That pretty much sums up the definition of a dem.

seems the Webmasters didn't like my previous response regarding the Corporations
and your attack on the poor, oh well it would be lost on you anyways, save's me the time rewriting all over again.
The simple fact that you consider anyone in need a Leach or Taker or Lazy or whatever the GOP buzz word is for the day, is disheartening, and that the future looks bleak at best!

why do folks always seem to feel that their plight means they are entitled to degrade others, why do righties in the pursuit to make a point resort to name calling and I work harder than you, seriously, All you need to know is that I work full time, do others work harder than me, probably, maybe some not...that doesn't concern me, it's the "Holier than thou" attitude by the right that I'm most intrigued by, Jealous, possibly, but surely misguided and misinformed!

My glasses are rose colored. Cause I made them like that. I earned what I have. I started poor and went from 5 figures, to 6, back to 5. I don't blame anyone for this and I always do what it takes to make it. I have lost and I have won. I just don't believe that 1 and 7 need help. Sorry. You can believe what you want. But you see what you want to see in your world and through your glasses. Much more to it than that. I work 55 plus hours a week, how many do you work? How many would some takers work to make it and get off the system? Some would, some wouldn't. You have to believe that some on the system want to stay where they are at so they don't have to work anymore than they are now. If you don't, then your are fooling yourself.

Tax Cuts, that is taking, especially when these so-called job creators haven't created a single job, except maybe for the DHHS! The 1%, TAKERS
They also receive Tax cuts, they receive "Entitlements"
and about your Iphone and Clothes that cost a fortune....really? you seen the receipts? Have you been to GCF lately....pretty nice clothes there, My World is the real world without the rose colored GOP glasses worn by you

seems the more money tax payers pay into the hand out system the more money goes to the takers. This does seem odd to me. what happens when the dems tax everyone that they can ( the responsible working ones) and then that money is gone and the hand out pool is even bigger? Who will you tax and blame then? If you can answer without spinning please enlighten us. This will be good.

  • notexactly Feb 25, 2014

which corporations 99? Do they include the ones owned by dems too??? No the takers are the ones that expect something for nothing. If you don't like the so called corporations don't buy their products. May not have a computer, but I bet they got a smart phone at around 80$ a month and clothes that cost a fortune to wear. Your babble is getting old. Yes there are people starving, yes there are people that need help. just not all of the ones on the system. How many people on food stamps go and buy beer and lotto tickets with the cash in their pocket? I see many every week. maybe you should get out. How do you know anyone on here does not do charity work. You assume way to much. Tired of hearing your bleeding heart about how you think everyone on the system is because they cant make it. Hogwash. I am all for helping the truly helpless. I just don't think that 1 in 7 are that helpless. You need to open your window and actually see the real world, instead of living in YOUR world.
