Six charged in string of Durham robberies

All six, including a 14-year-old, were arrested Wednesday following robberies Tuesday in the 800 block of North Driver Street and the 600 block of Raynor Street, police said.

The spree began on April 18 with a robbery in the 200 block of Stokes Street. The following day, robberies occurred in the 4000 block of Meriwether Drive, the 900 block of Chalk Level Road and the 300 block of Lasalle Street.

On April 22, robberies were reported in the 300 block of Lasalle Street, the 4000 block of Meriwether Drive and the 400 block of East Pilot Street, followed by a robbery in the 900 block of Chalk Level Road on April 23, the 4000 block of Meriwether Drive last Saturday and the 500 block of Homeland Avenue on Sunday.

Police said the majority of the victims are Latino. The suspects operated as a group, police said, but not all of them were charged in every case.

Jerelle McMannus, 19, was charged with five counts of conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon, one count of possession of stolen goods and two counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon.

Jalen Patterson, 19, was charged with five counts of conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon and two counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon.

Kester Anthony, 19, was charged with four counts of conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon and two counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon.

Rontrez Marsh, 16, was charged with three counts of conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon, five counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon and one count of possession of stolen goods.

Malik Hill, 24, was charged with two counts of conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon, one count of robbery with a dangerous weapon, one count of misdemeanor probation violation and one count of failure to appear.

All five were being held in the Durham County jail under $2 million bonds.

The 14-year-old is being held in a separate facility, and juvenile petitions will be filed against him, police said.
