Weather

WRAL WeatherCenter Blog : When living in AZ years back, I witnessed a weather phenomenon (can't recall the term) where the nighttime air temps around collapsing(?) thunderstorms can quickly rise 10 or more degrees for short periods. I remember one such night where the temp in Phoenix shot from ~95 to 107 at 10pm. Are you familiar with this? And what is the term for it?
WRAL WeatherCenter Blog : Hi, Folks! Check the Doppler for Wake County about 6:50 PM . . . notice the odd retrograde feature crossing Wake County from E to W, while the general trend was from the NW. I assume dit was an artifact, BUT . . . we were outside riding on the greenway, and it seemed real. What was that?
WRAL WeatherCenter Blog : A lot of members of my community pool are having a dispute we need your help in rectifying. Here it is: Every Friday night our pool is supose to stay open until 9:30, but ALWAYS closes early due to so called "lightning". This so called "lightning" even ocurs on clear nights with little or no cloud cover. What we think the lifeguards are actually seeing is "inner cloud lightning" from far-far away. I realize sky to ground lighnting is extremely hazardous, but what about this type of ocurrance? We think our pool lifeguards use this as an excuse to close the pool early, and that the severity to life and limb is greatly exagerated. Please explain.
