RALEIGH, N.C. — Almost a month after it opened, a sinkhole on Hammond Road in southeast Raleigh has been repaired, the state Department of Transportation said Tuesday afternoon.

Both southbound lanes of Hammond Road at Rush Street were closed throughout the day Tuesday so that work could be completed on the sinkhole the lanes repaved.

The 25-foot hole opened up early in September after an underground pipe failed. Crews filled the hole and repaved the road, but the fresh pavement began to sag late last week, forcing crews to close one southbound lane.

On Friday, crews poured cement in the hole and added a steel plate for support.
