Single-car wreck on I-95 claims a life

Halifax County, N.C. — A woman died and three others were injured Saturday in a single-car crash on Interstate 95 in Halifax County.
State troopers investigating the wreck said a 2005 Jeep Liberty was southbound near milemarker 162 when it swerved toward the center. The driver then over-corrected, running off the road to the right and into the woods.
Joann K. Bouchard, 70, of Fall River, Mass., died instantly, authorities said. The driver, Almerinda Tenchara, 71, of Westport, Mass., and two passengers were seriously injured.
Tenchara was being treated Sunday at Pitt Memorial Hospital. Her condition was not available.
Passenger Claudette Bison, 74, of West Port, Mass., was also at Pitt Memorial and her condition was not available Sunday.
Passenger Beverly Oliveira, 63, of Fall River, Mass., was in fair condition Sunday at Duke University Hospital.
Tenchara faces a charge of misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.
The wreck happened just before noon, and traffic was backed up for about two hours, troopers said.
