Silver Alert for Sampson County man canceled

The Sampson County Sheriff's Office canceled its search Thursday for a missing 70-year-old man who is believed to be cognitively impaired.

GARLAND, N.C. — The Sampson County Sheriff's Office canceled its search Thursday for a missing 70-year-old man who is believed to be cognitively impaired. 

The North Carolina Center for Missing Persons issued a Silver Alert for William Earl Powell, who was last seen walking his dog in Garland, around 4:30 p.m. It was canceled less than six hours later.

It wasn't clear how Powell was found.
