— Authorities issued a Silver Alert Friday afternoon for a Raleigh woman believed to be suffering from a mental impairment.

Bonnie Gay Brooks, 49, of 5040 Kaplan Drive, was last seen driving a silver 2006 Hyundai Elantra with North Carolina license plate WPN-2372, police said. It was unknown in what direction she was headed.

Brooks was described as about 5 feet, 4 inches tall and 165 pounds. She has long, brown hair and green eyes and was wearing a white, short-sleeve T-shirt, blue jeans and white tennis shoes.

Anyone with information about her whereabouts is asked to call the Raleigh Police Department at 919-831-6384.

She could be an accident waiting to happen behind the wheel ...given her problems.

I hope they find this woman soon and my comment does not specifically refer to this particular person.

I don't want to be insensitive, but does anyone else find it alarming at the number of Silver Alerts that are issued also contain a description of the vehicle they are driving? Surely, these people have not all taken off in someone elses car?

One of the main criteria for a Silver Alert as stated by the NC Department of Crime Control and Public safety is that the person is believed to be suffering from dementia or other cognitive impairment. Should they be driving in the first place if they have dementia or a cognitive impairment? Or are Silver Alerts being issued for people who should not be getting one in the first place?

Oh Bonnie! Am praying for ya gal.

(Bonnie is by-polar and can become extremely distraught and violent without her meds.)

    God bless.
