— The N.C. Center for Missing Persons issued a Silver Alert Tuesday night for a missing 90-year-old Beaufort County man.

James Nicholas Lewis, who is believed to be suffering from dementia or some other cognitive impairment, left his vacation home on Rocky Mount Drive in Chocowinity, officials said.

Lewis is described as white with salt and pepper short hair and brown eyes. He is about 6 feet tall and weights 180 pounds. He also wears glasses.

At the time he went missing, officials said Lewis was wearing navy blue shorts, a tan shirt and brown shoes.

Lewis was seen driving a 1999 Dark Green Oldsmobile Intrigue with N.C. license plate LXE8376. The vehicle has a spoiler on the back. He was last seen turning left on Cotton Patch Road.

Officials said Lewis may be heading to 108060 N.C. Hwy North in Rocky Mount.

This was not a person that had a driver's license - this was the case of an older person not realizing what he was doing and obtained access to keys. Please do not make comments based upon assumption. Thank God that this had a good outcome and there is no one at fault. And he was missing a lot longer than an hour.
