PARKTON, N.C. — Police were searching Wednesday for a missing Hope Mills teen who was last seen at a home in Parkton.

The North Carolina Center for Missing Persons issued a Silver Alert for Makayla Rose Macedo, 16, shortly after 6 p.m. She is believed to be cognitively impaired.

Macedo is white, with shoulder-length brown hair and brown eyes, 5 feet 2 inches tall and about 135 pounds.

Police said she was last seen at 1414 Jockey Court in Parkton, heading east toward Blacks Bridge Road. She was wearing a white T-shirt with black design, black tights and black shoes.

Anyone with information on her whereabouts is asked to call police at 910-425-4103.

Developed in 2007, Silver Alert is a system to quickly notify the public about missing endangered adults who suffer from dementia or other cognitive impairments, such as Alzheimer's disease.

It also allows caregivers and nursing homes to report a person missing. In the past, only a family member could report an adult missing.
