WINTERVILLE, N.C. — Greenville police found a 14-year-old boy Tuesday about seven hours after he went missing.

The North Carolina Center for Missing Persons issued a Silver Alert for Mohammad Eniola Adebayo Giwa about 4 a.m. after he went missing from the Sterling Pointe Apartments. Authorities did not provide details but said the boy was unharmed.

He was found near the intersection of Greenville Boulevard and Red Banks Road about 10:30 a.m., police said.

Developed in 2007, Silver Alert is a system to quickly notify the public about missing endangered adults who suffer from dementia or other cognitive impairments, such as Alzheimer's disease.

It also allows caregivers and nursing homes to report a person missing. In the past, only a family member could report an adult missing.
